Nestled high in the Sierra Madre Mountains east of Vallarta lies this ancient Mexican village originally settled in 1605.  The town reached its peak of prosperity in the 1700s, when over 30,000 people inhabited the area mining for gold and silver. Today, about 600 residents keep its true colonial heritage alive while cultivating coffee and agave.  Hacienda Jalisco, one of the many 18th century haciendas in the area, will host your visit.

The drive from Vallarta to Hacienda Jalisco is about 1 ½ hours.  Once there, you will enjoy a historical tour and informative commentary by where you can taste and purchase roasted organic coffees. A walking tour of San Sebastian plaza and shops will stir your imagination as to how living here used to be.

Returning to the Hacienda about 2 pm, you will enjoy a three course Mexican BBQ, accompanied by salads grown in their organic gardens and perhaps a piece of their famous lime pie.  On the way out of town, we will stop for a brief visit at the tequila distillery and shop for a demonstration on the making of tequila.
